Throughout your lifetime, aches and pains can occur for a number of reasons. Whether it’s through natural wear and tear, sporting injuries, bad posture or other reasons. At Holme Valley Osteopathy we extend a warm welcome to all patients regardless of age or circumstances.
Pregnant women
Osteopathic treatment can be beneficial in easing some of the discomforts of pregnancy, preparing for labour and helping mother and baby to recover after birth.
Babies and toddlers
The birth process can sometimes place stress on a baby’s skull, causing strain on the tissues. This can often result in the baby or child being irritable for long periods of time, for example. Cranial osteopathy is a gentle and effective treatment, which can help to resolve this problem.
Young adults
Common problems in the young adults we see are often general aches and pains caused by, for example, minor falls, which upset the physical balance of the body. In addition, we successfully treat ‘growing pains’ and issues which affect posture and the growth and development of the spine which could be caused by sports injuries, or carrying heavy school bags!
Middle age
Our general lifestyle can lead to the need for effective treatment. Our work, whether physical or desk based; our interests and hobbies; our emotional stress – these can all be contributing factors to our aches and pains.
With 80% of people experiencing back pain at some point in their life, it can have a significant impact on your quality of life and is a major cause of time off work. Research also shows that chronic pain is often associated with depression, anxiety and poor sleep. Osteopaths will provide both diagnosis and treatment to effectively treat this.
Beyond middle age
‘Wear and tear’ is a natural part of ageing and the speed of this process varies considerably from individual to individual. Although as osteopaths we can’t turn back the clock, we can help treat arthritis and assist the body in adapting to such changes.
